Feeling is the secret
Neville's shortest book makes one claim relentlessly: imagination impresses the subconscious only through feeling — the sensation of the wish already fulfilled, not the wanting of it.
The mechanism, in his terms
Conscious mind proposes; subconscious disposes. The subconscious, in Neville's model, does not take orders — it takes impressions, and the only currency it accepts is feeling. Whatever is felt as true gets expressed, without moral filtering: worry practiced with feeling is a prayer for the thing worried about. That symmetry is the book's warning label.
The bedtime protocol
The book's practical core fits in a paragraph: nightly, in drowsiness, assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled — not picturing it across the room but lying there as the person whose it already is — and let sleep seal the assumption. Sleep, for Neville, is when the subconscious goes to work on whatever mood it was handed. Hand it the right one.
Finding the feeling when it won't come
- Subtract instead of adding. Can't feel the new life? Feel the absence of the old weight — the bill not dreaded, the inbox not feared. Relief is a feeling of the end.
- Shrink the scene. Feeling follows specificity. One second — the key turning in the new door — carries more charge than a panorama.
- Borrow from memory. Recall a real moment of "it worked out," hold its texture, and walk it into the new scene.
- Settle for calm conviction. The target feeling is not euphoria; it is the quiet 'of course' of a done thing.

Common questions
What is the main idea of Feeling Is the Secret?
That the subconscious is impressed through feeling alone: assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled — especially entering sleep — and the assumption tends to express itself; feelings entertained with conviction are practiced, for better or worse.
How do I generate the feeling of the wish fulfilled?
Shrink the scene to one specific second, use touch, borrow the texture of a real remembered success, or feel the relief of an old weight gone. Calm conviction, not euphoria, is the target.
Is Feeling Is the Secret public domain?
The book was published in 1944; early Neville works of that era are widely reprinted and commonly circulated as public-domain texts.
