The imaginal realm

“Imaginal” is a deliberate word, and not the same as “imaginary.” Imaginary means unreal: made up, easy to wave away. Imaginal names the opposite: a real, lawful inner world of images that genuinely shapes how you feel, choose, and act.

Picture it as a third place, neither idle daydream nor literal fact, but a true territory of images with its own weight and meaning. A scene you vividly inhabit, a figure that surfaces in a dream, the felt sense of a wish already fulfilled: none of these are “nothing.” They work on you, and you can learn to work within them.

It is the country both paths travel. Neville’s living scenes and Jung’s active imagination are two ways of taking the inner image seriously. That is what this app is for, and why it’s called Imaginal: a practice for that realm, where you learn to enter it on purpose and move through it with care.
