Jung drew on the myth of Chiron, the centaur whose incurable wound made him the greatest of healers. The image names a deep truth: our own wounds, consciously borne, become the source of our empathy and our gift.
This is not a glorification of suffering. It is the recognition that what broke us open can, when tended, let us meet others in their pain — and that the healer and the wounded often live in the same person.
